The Sh’ma Project is doing UPstander workshops in three local schools this spring: IM Terrell, FWAFA, and Arlington Heights. About 200 young people will participate in our Holocaust and Human Rights education and artistic initiative this term. We are very grateful to the Texas Holocaust Genocide and Antisemitism Advisory Commission for a grant that has made this possible, along with matching support from the Jewish Federation of Fort Worth and Tarrant County. We are happy to be training four more talented facilitators who can run workshops as we continue to expand the program to other locations around Texas.
I have just gotten back from the Holocaust Museum of Los Angeles, where I presented my first inter-generational workshop. We had about 40 participants ranging from 15 to 75 years old. It was very exciting to work with such a diverse group of people, and I learned a lot about how to expand these workshops for audiences of different ages and backgrounds.
I am now focused on taking the film, Sh’ma: A Story of Survival to Europe for the 80th anniversary of the Liberation. I’m reaching out to museums, JCCs and educators from Brighton to Belgrade. I’m on sabbatical from TCU until August, and I’m eager to share this work wherever I can. Suggestions are welcome!
