I was born in Texas and grew up all over the state. I have a BFA degree from UTAustin with concentrations in Product Photography and Life Drawing. I worked as a product photographer first as an assistant to a product photographer and then as the on staff photographer in my family’s retail business. I held this position for about 15 -20 years and produced 8 western wear catalogues during this time, as well as advertising photos for hotels, newspapers, and other publications. During this time, I also began taking oil painting and photography classes at Brookhaven College.
I began taking mosaic classes in 1999 and have continued taking classes and workshops with many different mosaic masters from England, Italy, France and Chicago during this time.
My mosaics can be described as traditional technique mosaics which means that I have been trained to make mosaics as the romans made mosaics, using similar tools, techniques ,and adhesives. I taught at the Creative Art Center for about 6 years teaching different types of mosaics- pebble mosaics, tempered glass mosaics (mixed media), and different types of traditional techniques which is what I currently teach.
I began curating at the Museum of Biblical Art in 2014 and produced my first juried show in 2015. I have organized 4 juried shows, 2 individual artists’ shows, and one 9-11 memorial sculpture exhibition for the anniversary of 9-11. My first 3 shows were Juried shows and I began organizing invitational shows in 2018. I have really enjoyed producing these shows.
The Museum of Biblical Art of Dallas is the only museum in the United States that shows current, contemporary mosaics in the United States regularly and is a hub for current mosaic artists. I must give thanks to the Museum of Biblical Art and Scott Peck, the director, for understanding the importance of mosaic making and the general importance of Mosaic art within the art world.
I currently teach short mosaic courses regularly for different organizations in Dallas, in both the museum and in other venues. I look forward to teaching these short courses.
