Portrait and Fine Artist
At the ripe old age of 50, I discovered that I had a talent for art. Quite by accident I scribbled a portrait in crayon and I was on my way. Without any academic training I began to draw and paint feverishly. I studied with individual artists, the incredible faculty at Brookhaven School of the Arts and SMU, and I even studied traditional Korean painting in the US and South Korea. Although my paintings began in the traditional way of the great masters, my style later broadened to include a more contemporary focus.
My unique life experiences and perspective have encouraged me to emphasize the universality of the human experience. For three years I have been working on a series of oil paintings exploring my own personal challenges and growth. I have immersed myself in the issues we all face, such as rejection, loneliness, solitude, the comfort of community, the support of friends, joy, and feminine strength. My works are both representational and interpretative in nature, many emphasizing the human form and face.
I have taught painting for Mountainview College, Dallas Recreation and Parks, private classes, and after school programs for the Plano Independent School District. I demonstrated my approach to Portrait Painting for the Plano Art Association. Some of the galleries and group and juried shows I have exhibited in include the Alan Barnes Gallery, the Main Street Art Festival juried show, Cedar Valley College, The Eisemann Center Green Mezzanine Gallery, The TVAA Gallery (prize winner), the ACA, Brookhaven College (prize winner), the Dallas Opera, and The Gallery at Midtown. My paintings have been published in the CityArtCal. I am a Signature member of the Portrait Society of America.
In my other life, I was an adjunct professor of Developmental Studies at Mountainview College and Richland College and sang for the Connecticut Grand Opera, The Raleigh Oratorio Society, and the National Opera Company ensemble.
